Oklahoma City was settled on April 22, in 1889, in a very unique way. An area known as the "Unassigned Lands" was opened for settlement in an event known as "The Land Run".
The land run started at high noon on April 22, 1889, with an estimated 50,000 people lined up for their piece of the available two million acres. Approximately 10,000 of those people ended up settling in what became Oklahoma City, the capital city of the state of Oklahoma.
